Lithuania put on an amazing show

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has praised Lithuania's historic hosting of the FIFA Futsal World Cup after watching Portugal emerge victorious in a dramatic final against Argentina at the Kaunas Arena. Brazil finished the tournament in third-place following their win against Kazakhstan. “This tournament has been a great success,” said the FIFA President after Lithuania staged its first ever FIFA competition. “It has come at the right time after the difficulties and delays caused by coronavirus. To bring the world to Lithuania has been something beautiful. I’m very happy with the work that has been done by the federation and the authorities. They have all worked together as one team.”

Prior to attending the tournament`s final two matches, Mr Infantino visited the S. Darius and S. Girenas stadium construction site and discussed infrastructure projects with Linas Obcarskas, Vice Minister for Education, Science and Sport and Kaunas city mayor Visvaldas Matijosaitis. He was accompanied by Tomas Danilevicius, Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF) President and Edgaras Stankevicius, LFF Secretary General. President Infantino also attended a meeting with Jurgita Siugzdiniene, Minister for Education, Science and Sport, at the Kaunas Arena. “The FIFA Futsal World Cup will leave a great legacy,” he added. “Lithuania is important on the world map. The programmes that will be carried out now by the federation, for more boys and girls to play futsal, will be very important for society.”
