FIFA President discusses Omani football with Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik

FIFA President Gianni Infantino met with His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik in Doha, Qatar, where they reviewed areas of cooperation and the promotion of football with the football authorities in the Sultanate of Oman. His Majesty the Sultan expressed his appreciation of FIFA's efforts to develop football globally, in particular through the Football for Schools programme.

Football for Schools (F4S) is an ambitious programme run by FIFA, in collaboration with UNESCO, which aims to contribute to the education, development and empowerment of around 700 million children. It seeks to make football more accessible to both boys and girls around the world by incorporating football activities into the education system, in partnership with relevant authorities and stakeholders. President Infantino expressed his thanks and gratitude for His Majesty’s continuous support to the Omani youth, and provided an update on the ongoing consultation around the Future of Football. Last month, coaches of every men's national team were invited to attend online videoconferences to discuss a potential new international match calendar from 2024.

FIFA will host an online Professional Football Conference for men’s football on 24 November, giving stakeholders around the world the chance to discuss the future of the global game. Oman's men's national team kick-off their FIFA Arab Cup campaign on 30 November against Iraq, featuring in Group A alongside Bahrain and hosts Qatar. Oman have qualified for four of the last five AFC Asian Cup final tournaments and notably enjoyed their best ever showing at the finals in 2019 when they progressed from the group stage for the first time ever.
