FIFA President Gianni Infantino has enjoyed productive meetings with both the Hungarian Football Federation (MLSZ) and the San Marino Football Association (FSGC) as the two came together for a FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ qualifying match, noting the excellent facilities in Budapest and discussing steps for football’s development.

Mr Infantino met with MLSZ President and FIFA Vice-President Sándor Csányi and the FSGC delegation on his first visit to the Puskás Arena in the Hungarian capital, as the home side ran out 4-0 winners in qualifying group I. Subsequently, the FIFA President also met Viktor Orbán, relaying the importance of a close collaboration with the member association and the power of football to make a difference to wider society.

“The facilities here are very impressive and have received substantial government investment and support,” said President Infantino. “It really boosts Hungarian football on the international stage and has the potential to nurture future talent in this country, which is vital given the strong traditions and history that Hungary has in both the FIFA World Cup and Olympic Football Tournament.”

Mr Infantino last visited Budapest for the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) Congress in February 2020 and he will go on to further meetings with member associations during this round of FIFA World Cup™ qualification matches.
